Makayla joined the Building Blocks team in September 2024 after she graduated with her Bachelor's degree from University of Nebraska Lincoln. Her degree major was Psychology with an emphasis in Child, Youth and Family Studies. In addition to her formal training, Makayla brings "lived experience" in living with and advocating for people with Autism and other mental/physical health conditions.

Makayla believes she was drawn to this work because of this experience. She saw the disparity of available services, inequity of opportunities and overall lack of understanding of these conditions and has a passion for helping others overcome whatever challenges might be in their way.

Makayla lives in the Grand Island area with her significant other, and their pets Koda(dog) and Autumn(cat). In her downtime she enjoys reading and spending time in nature.
