Because you know...Raising a child takes more than love.

Get Involved

You can make a difference in the life of a child!

Many families in our state lack the resources to provide for their children's basic needs.  Some of these children have increased health issues such as malnutrition, emotional problems, which all could lead to poor academic performance.  Foster Care is provided when a child cannot safely remain in their home.  Not everyone is cut out to be a foster parent, but there are things one can do to help children.  Now is your chance to help build a better future for foster children in Nebraska.

H
ere are some ideas of things you can do to support foster families.*

  • Offer to give a foster child free lessons in music, dance, art, etc.
  • Donate money or goods for special occasions such as holidays, birthdays, or graduation.
  • Help organize local recreation camps or other activities for foster children, or offer scholarships to existing camps or activities.
  • Offer to help support and organize local foster parent appreciation events such as banquets, picnics or potlucks.
  • Volunteer to help local foster parent support groups by offering child care during meetings.
  • Organize an "Undie Sunday" at your church or "Undie Monday" at your school or work place to collect underwear and socks for foster children.
  • Host presentations about child abuse, domestic violence, and foster care to raise awareness of these issues.
  • Distribute empty baby bottles to be filled with donations of money "Bottles for Babies" to be used for diapers and other infant supplies.
  • Help recruit people you believe would make good foster parents.
  • Consider becoming a foster parent.

Your donation will go towards:

1.  Foster Parent Recruitment.  Sometimes foster children move and are split from their siblings due to the shortage of foster homes.  By recruiting more quality foster homes, foster children will have a better chance of permanence if they cannot return home.

 2. Activities and programs for foster parents and children.  Building Blocks conducts monthly activities for foster families to help them be more involved in the community.  Foster Parents and children benefit by meeting new people and forming a support group of people just like them.

3. Respite Services- Like any other family, foster families sometimes need a break from their children.  They don't always have access to a skilled daycare provider or grandparent to provide the care.  Building Blocks provides training respite care providers to care for these children.
